Bijorhca Paris returns this September, bringing a new dynamic to this edition. Refocusing the show, streamlining the sectors and improving navigation for an even bigger and better event, the show’s new management has reaffirmed Bijorhca’s leading position in the sector. Held at Paris Porte de Versailles from 6 to 9 September 2019, the show will attract around 350 exhibiting brands and over 12,000 French and international visitors.

STRONGER SECTOR DEFINITION AND NEW SPACES

Drawing on its unique ability to bring players together Bijorhca Paris, France’s only trade show for the jewellery industry and related sectors, is making this edition easier to navigate with 4 clearlydefined areas:

The PRECIOUS AREA focuses on precious jewellery and watches, with:

PRECIOUS AVENUE: launched in September 2018 primarily to help jewellers, watchmakers, gold and silversmiths make the most of their visit, PRECIOUS AVENUE returns this year bringing together designers working in noble materials (18 ct gold, Sterling silver, platinum, pearls and more) – here you’ll find Les Folies de Mélanie, Porchet, the Vendôme group and Shinju Kobe, to name but a few.

PRECIOUS GALLERY: formerly part of FASHION TRENDS, Precious Gallery – created by Elizabeth Leriche now has its own space at the show’s entrance where a selection of precious jewellery designs and creations are highlighted.

The FASHION AREA will host:

Leading historic brands from the world of fashion jewellery such as Michael Michaud, Tania Gil, Bronzallure, Frangos Jewelry, Taim and Philippe Ferrandis.

TRENDS: this new “shop window” will showcase a selection of almost 100 upcoming brands and designers

FASHION TRENDS: at the heart of the Trends space this Bijorhca Paris flagship show area, designed by artistic director Elizabeth Leriche, will complement the product offering, providing insight into Spring Summer 2020.

L’ATELIER, found in Hall 5.3, is the onestopshop for tools and machines, packaging/POS materials, services and finishings. Jewellers will find every trade they need conveniently located on one floor.

RAW MATERIALS, found on the ground floor, brings together all the components in jewellery creation, together with all the most useful trade essentials. INFORMATION, EDUCATION,

INSPIRATION ON BIJORHCA PARIS

Elizabeth Leriche on exciting new jewellery concepts Bijorhca Paris artistic director Elizabeth Leriche has singled out 4 trends for SS 2020 which can be found in the Fashion Trends space. Greatly influenced by the runway shows, they naturally follow both readytowear trends and seasonality. Twist Heritage, Color Graphic, Future Ocean and Sunny Craft mirror the seasons, from the soft light of spring to lazy summer days.

Future Ocean plunges us into the depth of the abyss. Influenced by society’s growing awareness of the precious value of water, this theme wants to be more experimental than narrative: technical materials, a futuristic feel, and plays on reflection, fluidity and transparency will be staged in an aquatic setting in shades of blue.

Sunny Craft is a bright travelinspired trend showcasing ethnicallyinspired jewellery that responds to the dazzling popularity of artisan craftsmanship. Natural materials such as wood, raffia and rattan are braided, sculpted and stitched in a palette drawn from natural spices, ranging from yellow through to terracotta and punctuated by khaki.

Twist Heritage puts two generations headtohead, as classic bourgeois gets a modern rock makeover. The creations have a distinctly British feel and the androgynous edge everpresent on the runways, with masculine fabrics married to floral motifs in a nod to tapestry and the English garden. The colour palette sets fresh muted shades of skin tone against more vibrant colours such as carmine and emerald green.

Color Graphic brings together sport and art, marrying constructivist trends with the kinetic art of the 60s. The result is a resolutely graphic feel, primary colours cut with black and white. Optical illusions, technical materials and 3D technology create contrast for what is undoubtedly the most urban of the four trends.

Alongside this, workshops and talks will offer professionals, institutional bodies and experts the opportunity to network and debate the sector’s challenges and initiatives:

  • Millennials and Jewellery by Frédérique Hagège Ubaldi of the Académie des Métiers d’Art
  • Ethical jewellery of tomorrow by Emmanuel Piat of Maison Piat, gem dealers since 1920
  • Trends and new developments: new materials, distribution channels and clientele by Manuel Mallen de Courbet, Ecological Jeweller
  • What place for new technologies in the jewellery profession? by WACOM
  • Ergonomics at the jewellers’ workstation by Olivier Decourcelle from Ergos Concept in partnership with TBRP Group.
  • Planning a collection by Johnny Walter of the Académie des Métiers d’Art
  • Retraining in jewellery design: my experience by Caroline de Benoist, designer at the brand of the same name
  • Round table discussion: the sector today, demystified by jewellers/silver and goldsmiths Jean Boggio and Matthieu Tournaire, with Kyra Brensinger as facilitator.

A new space “Training & Knowhow”

To emphasise the value of skills and knowhow and encourage their transmission, Bijorhca Paris has a new “Training & Knowhow” area dedicated to workshops and professional trades. Previously known as the “Schools and Training Village”, this has been expanded this edition to include demonstrations by professionals bursting to share their expertise and the passion that drives them! The space will also be used to demonstrate the interactions in the creation of contemporary jewellery between learning traditional techniques and the new technologies. The space is in partnership with WACOM, the leading manufacturer of interactive pen displays & computers for the creative industries.

The following demonstrations are scheduled:

  • Stringing pearls by Geneviève Cailleteau who works with rare pearls in her workshop in Besançon, France
  • Engraving by Thomas Brac de la Perrière who has been in jewellery and watchmaking for 10 years and has just opened his own design and artisan workshop
  • Scissor craft by the Institut des Arts de la Bijouterie (Jewellery trades institute) in Aix en Provence
  • Polishing by Ateliers Bermudes
  • From drawing to polishing by Bellonor Joaillier who will present a ring with a Prasiolite and brilliantcut diamonds

SIX BIJORHCA PARIS’S CRUSHES YOU’LL FIND AT THE SHOW

D’Alejandra This emerging Spanish company specialises in fashion jewellery and accessories created from high quality materials such as semiprecious stones, leather and nickelfree silver. We love the originality of their collections and the beauty of the colourful semiprecious stone and silver combinations. The pieces can be worn together or individually.

Pérou Design Handcrafted from recycled materials such as bull’s horn, each Pérou Design piece is unique. The brand reached out to artisans in Lima for jewellery influenced by both craftsmanship and the history of Peru. We love the brand’s ethics and values, particularly the use of local artisans, and its delicate openwork.

Maison Tambour Born into a family of needlecraft workers in Tokyo, Etsuko Harada started crocheting while very young. Her unique handmade creations are inspired by metamorphosis through the passage of time. We love the finesse of her work, particularly her beautiful, romantic “Feuille d’or” (gold leaf) collection. Her embroidery pieces, uniting gold wire and semiprecious stones, represent craftsmanship at its very best.

Vesna Garic Vesna Garic’s world is ultrapure and elegant porcelain jewellery, handcrafted in a Paris workshop but reflecting the years she spent in Asia, the pieces embodying architectural inspiration from lines and curves suspended in midair. We love the Caldera earrings, inspired by American artist Alexander Calder’s stunning mobiles, which beautifully meld gilded brass and porcelain.

Cahana Jewelry Born from and inspired by Rikke’s life experiences, the Cahana Jewelry brand creates jewellery that shows us the power we have within ourselves to overcome the obstacles of we face every day. Each piece is handcrafted, and suitable for day and evening wear. We love not just the look of the pieces, but the way they want to share our journey through life.

Dansk Smykkekunst The second generation of a family company founded in 1971, Christian Storm and his wife Malene received the ninth King Frederick IX honorary award in 2014. They create their jewellery from copper and brass, which is then plated in 14 carat gold, Sterling silver, hematite, rose gold or rhodium. The pieces embody semiprecious stones, glass or freshwater pearls, motherofpearl and enamel. We love the alliance of shiny and matt metals with irregular beads and pearls.
