For men, the overriding theme of next Spring/Summer will be South Africa – the casual- elegant lifestyle in Cape Town, pulsating life in the small metropolis in the south of Africa as well as the maritime influences of the legendary, colourful waterfront and the vintage feeling of the famous Winelands in the hinterland characterise MAC Summer 2011.
MAC man may already look forward to the coming Spring/Summer season! Selected and premium materials are going to be relabelled, which makes their statement rougher and more masculine. Elaborate hidden details such as decorative stiching, piping and patterned pocket lining details, waistband tapes, rivets and worker details upgrade tried-and-true styles. Colourful and discreet checks, casual materials and cuts as well as fresh stripe details confirm the maritime look of the collection.

CAPE TOWN
CAPE TOWN CAPE TOWN CAPE TOWN CAPE TOWN The symbiosis of the big city flair, its enchanting location by the ocean and its maritime elegance give Cape Town its unique charm. MAC reflects this ambience in its Summer collection: The styles look formal and clean, with a big city chic. Slim silhouettes, in particular a new slim chino cut and 5-pocket, may be perfectly combined. Denim is also clean and simple and comes in summery washes. The flat fabrics are dominated by light materials such as gabardine, poplin, satin and cotton ceramics. Here, MAC achieves strong contrasts and therefore diverse looks by way of coloured wefts – from elegant to sportive.

WATERFRONT MARINA
Cape Town’s waterfront is legendary: the combination of harbour flair, pulsating nightlife and colourful African architecture exudes its very own atmosphere. At the quay, there are luxury yachts from all over the world next to impressive sport yachts – and Table Mountain serves as the breathtaking backdrop. Everywhere you sense a casual sailing feeling and elegance. Inspired by life on the waterfront, this theme looks sportive-maritime or is bright and colourful. Bermudas and casual models have fresh check and stripe details or a ripstop surface. Slim cargos and chino Bermudas reflect the maritime style. With strong used effects, bright bleach washes, with stripes or checks, denims take on a summery look.

WINELANDS
The Winelands in South Africa are fascinating because of their extraordinary scenery, recalling a long-bygone era. It seems as if the clock has stood still – historic buildings live through their patina and do not seem to have changed for decades. MAC revives this existential feeling with selected materials, looks and cuts: the trousers of the theme come in a trendy vintage look. Authentic vintage washes provide denims and flats with a partly ancient touch – while worker details give them a tougher effect. Linen and rough, pigment- coloured textures with wash effects as well as casual check varieties will turn the styles into favourites in no time. And denim Bermudas are handy and sturdy summer companions all around.

MATERIALS
Denim is the ultimate material – there is no getting around it in the men’s department either. For Spring/Summer 2011, it looks as diverse as never before, and sometimes even quite colourful. Heavily washed colour denims are stunning due to used effects, and masculine vintage denims due to 3D buffies. Indigo checks and stripes confirm the maritime influence of the collection. A high-quality, lightweight denim is ideal for hot days. It receives a summery bright coating and is offered in diverse, authentic washes. Resin- coated yarns give the styles a creative look, as do colourful selvage details, and contrast seams among the selvage denims. A clearly visible white weft gives Open Weave Denim a particularly clean look. Crosshatch denims, on the other hand, tend to be more sportive and sturdy, completely in line with the vintage theme. New looks and wearing properties are achieved through an intelligent mix of materials: linen and canvas denims look pointedly casual and offer remarkably great wearing comfort.
There is also diversity in the flat fabric department: sometimes with or without stretch, they present themselves perfectly denim-like, with elaborate used effects and baffies, or made of closely woven, compact gabardine. Satin styles have a great effect in their simple elegance. Modern fade-out looks with white patina on cotele and slub gabardine make you look forward to summer, as do lightweight materials with a contrast-coloured weft. With printed check or stripe designs, gabardine takes on maritime content and overdyed checks confirm the vintage look. Linen in different varieties obviously must not be missing: with or without stretch, sometimes casual or elegant, and sometimes with or without stripes.

COLOURS
The colour world for men is striking because of strong shades such as sunset (bright yellow), loganberry (violet) and watercress (green). Subdued lava as well as blue shades, from silver blue to steel blue and marine, and through to petrol, are absolutely trendy and define the collection.
